I Am for You (2022) - The Mechanic

I Am for You is a series of tableau self-portraits where I portray different American archetypes. Ever since I can remember, I wanted to be a part of American society. I spent my youth in Brazil consumed by American culture, products, and news. When I first moved to America for college I thought I was set, I knew the rules of engagement in this place. I came to find that no matter how much I pretended, I would never be allowed to assimilate. But the more I pretended, the harder it became to stop. These characters are alien yet familiar, comforting, and crushing.
